Use GoSadi to A/B Test Your Etsy Listings

Doing A/B testing on your patterns is a great way to improve your pattern listings and increase sales. GoSadi makes it quick and easy to create test listings on Etsy, so you can see which elements are working in your favor.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing means comparing two versions of your pattern listing to see which performs better. You change ONE element (or at most two) and track which version gets better results.

What to test:

  • Photos (order or selection)

  • Titles

  • Tags

  • Descriptions

IMPORTANT: Only test one or two things at a time. If you change too much, you won't know what caused the better response.

How GoSadi Makes A/B Testing Easy

Instead of manually creating a new Etsy listing every time you want to test something, GoSadi lets you copy a product and publish a test version to Etsy in 1-2 minutes.

Create an A/B Test Listing

1. Go to your Product Library in GoSadi

2. Find the product you want to test

3. Click Copy

This creates a draft copy of your product

The copy is labeled "copy" in your library

4. Rename your copy to remind yourself what you're testing

EXAMPLE: "Addison Blanket B - Etsy Photo Test"

EXAMPLE: "Addison Blanket B - Etsy Title Test"

5. Click into your copy to edit it

6. Make your ONE change (photo, title, tag, or description)

7. Go to Selling Channels, then Etsy

8. Keep everything else the same

Don't change the title (if you're testing photos)

Don't change photos (if you're testing titles)

Only modify the ONE element you're testing

9. Click Sync to Etsy or Publish to Etsy

10. Your test listing is now live on Etsy

NOTE: This is within Etsy's Terms of Service because you're testing different elements of the same product. Customers still receive what they paid for.

Example: Testing Photos First

1. Copy your product and name it "Addison Blanket B - Photo Test"

2. Go to your Photo Gallery

3. Reorder your photos (put a different photo first)

4. Keep the title, description, and tags exactly the same

5. Publish to Etsy only (don't publish to Ravelry, Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.)

6. Go to your Etsy shop and refresh

You now have two versions: one with the original photo order, one with the new order. Track which gets better performance.

Example: Testing Titles Next

After testing photos, test titles.

1. Copy your product again and name it "Addison Blanket B - Title Test"

2. Go back to the original photo order (put photos back in order to match your main listing)

3. Go to Selling ChannelsEtsy

4. Change only the title • Original: "Chunky Throw Blanket Crochet Pattern" • Test: "Beginner Crochet Home Decor Pattern"

5. Keep photos, description, and tags the same

6. Publish to Etsy

Now you're testing title vs. title instead of mixing title and photo variables.

EXAMPLE: You could test removing the word "chunky" and adding "easy" or "beginner" instead. Change enough to know what you're testing, but keep everything else identical.

Track Your Results

You don't need to create a new product for every test. You can reuse the same test product and just update it.

How to track which is which:

  • Use the dates in Etsy to see when each version was live

  • Check your Etsy stats for each version's performance

  • Note which title, photo, or tag got better results

NOTE: GoSadi doesn't provide the stats — you check those in your Etsy shop. But GoSadi makes it fast to create the test listings.

Best Practices for A/B Testing

  • Test ONE or TWO things at a time (not five things)

  • Keep everything else identical so you know what changed the results

  • Use descriptive names for your test copies (include what you're testing)

  • Only publish test copies to Etsy (not other channels)

  • Use dates to track which version performed better

  • Refer to your Etsy stats to see results
