How to Join a GoSadi Make-Along
Joining a Make-Along (MAL) is a fun way to make patterns together with friends, with other makers, and to connect with designers, especially when you’re a fan of a designer, their patterns, or when they’ve released something new and you want to jump in and be an early maker of it. Find MALs that interest you, join the community, and start creating.
Do You Need a GoSadi Account?
Yes, you need a GoSadi account (free or paid, designer or maker) to join a GoSadi Make-Along.

1. Visit gosadi.com
2. Click Get Started with GoSadi
3. Create your account using your valid email address
4. Complete the other details on the form
Find MALs to Join
Browse All Available MALs
1. Navigate to Community in the maker app on the left-hand side panel
2. Click Discover at the top of the page
3. You'll see all public MALs available to join
Filter by Craft Type
1. On the Discover page, use the Filter options to narrow your search
Filter by:
Knit - Knit-alongs
Crochet - Crochet-alongs
MAL - Make-A-Longs with multiple patterns
Search for Specific MALs
1. Use the search bar on the Discover page
Search by:
Make-Along name
Designer name
Pattern name
Keywords
Join a MAL
Some Make-Alongs are open, some require Designer-approval, and some are by invitation-only. Here’s how to join each of the types.
Join an Open MAL
Open MALs are public and anyone can join.
1. Find an open MAL on the Discover page
2. Click on the MAL
3. Click Join Make-A-Long
4. You're instantly added to the community
5. Post a comment!
Join a Private MAL
Private MALs require host approval.
1. Find a private MAL on the Discover page
2. Click on the MAL
3. Click Request to Join
4. The host will review your request and approve or decline
5. You'll be notified when approved
Join an Invite-Only MAL
Invite-only MALs require a special link.
1. Get the invite link from the host (via email, social media, etc.)
2. Click the link
NOTE: If you do not have a GoSadi account, sign-up for an account first to be directed to the MAL.
3. You'll be taken directly to the MAL page
4. Click Join Make-A-Long
5. You're added to the community
6. Say hi by posting a comment!
NOTE: Invite-only MALs don't appear on the public Discover page. You can only access them with the host's link.
View Your MALs
Once you've joined MALs, easily navigate between them.
See Your Joined MALs
1. Go to Community and click Joined at the top of the page
2. You'll see all the MALs you've joined
3. Notice the status badges:
Active - MAL is currently running
Upcoming - MAL hasn't started yet
Past - MAL has ended
Jump Between Multiple MALs
If you're in multiple MALs, you can hop between them without going back to the Joined page
1. While inside a MAL page, Look for the dropdown menu (carrot) next to the title of the MAL
2. Click the carrot to see all your MALs
3. Select the one you want to view next
4. Repeat to cycle through the MAL pages you want to visit
Start Your Project
To participate in a MAL, you need to create a project linked to that MAL.
Start a Project Within the MAL
This is important - start your project FROM WITHIN the MAL.
1. Go to your MAL page
2. Click Start Project
3. GoSadi automatically pulls in the pattern information:
Pattern name and details
Designer info
Recommended yarn and needles
Pattern gauge
4. You can customize:
Your project name (e.g., "My Summer Shawl")
Yarn you're using
Any private notes just for you
5. Decide if you want to:
Sync to Ravelry (optional)
Share updates in the MAL group (recommended)
6. Click Create Project
Why Start Project Within the MAL
Starting your project from within the MAL ensures:
Your project is linked to the community
You can share updates directly in the MAL
Other makers see your progress
The host can see all participants
IMPORTANT: If you’re in a MAL, don't create a regular project from your dashboard. Create it from the MAL page so it's connected to the community.
Share Your Progress
Update your MAL community as you work.
Post Updates
1. Go to your MAL page
2. Click Update Project or add a new comment
3. You can:
Write updates about your progress
Share photos of your yarn or work
Ask questions
Ask for advice
4. Check Share in MAL group to post your update to the community
5. Click Save
Participate in Community
1. See others' projects and progress
2. Leave reactions:
👏 Clap (great work!)
❤️ Heart (love it!)
Other emoji reactions
3. Leave comments:
Reply to project posts
Answer questions
Share encouragement
Give advice
Threaded Conversations
Comments are organized so discussions stay focused:
1. Click Reply on any post or comment
2. Your reply is threaded under that post
3. Everyone can see the conversation but it doesn't clutter the main feed
Revisit Past MALs
Even after a MAL ends, you can revisit it.
View Past MALs
1. Go to Community and click Past
2. See all MALs that have ended
3. Click on any past MAL to:
Read all posts and comments
See project updates
Review notes and tips
Download photos or notes from the event
NOTE: Past MALs may be active or archived. Archived MALs are read-only. Active past MALs may allow continued posting.
